King Street

King Street

The renovation and extension of this Victorian house in Fitzroy North was undertaken to better accomodate its family of five. The old 1980’s rear skillion extension was removed and replaced with a practical open-plan living pod in a classic example of form following function.

The pod is connected to the original weatherboard house, which we also fully renovated, via a contemporary glass passageway. It contains a kitchen, meals and family area that opens onto the backyard, as well as a timeless timber deck.

A simple folding down of the west-facing roof acts as a solar shade device, designed to control the afternoon sun. Despite the incredible improvements in light and space, the footprint of this transformed home is around the same as the original.
